Bonsai Pinus sylvestris

Bonsai Pinus sylvestris is an evergreen coniferous tree reaching a height of 40 m. Bark at the top of the stem and on young trees is yellow to reddish brown, in the lower part of old trees it is grey-brown. The leaves are needle-shaped, reach up to 6 cm length, are located two on shortened, modified twigs. “The flowers” are of the same sex, collected in male and female cones. The male cones are located in many, grape-like, on the tips of the branches. The female cones are located singly or up to two or three and are initially red, small ones, standing up; after pollination they curve down, they increase in size and become woody. The seeds are winged and ripen at the end of the second year, when the female cones dissolve and release the mature seeds. “Blooming” May-June.
