Curly Hazelnut – Corylus avellana 'Contorta'- its branches are curved like a corkscrew, slow growing species. The leaves are curly, sometimes coiled into a tube, they are long 8-10 cm, covered with soft moss, yellowish in autumn. The flowers are monoecious, male fringes are yellow, long 8-10 cm, secrete pollen from II to IV. Female colors are nondescript, with red lollipops, to 5 mm. The fruits are edible nuts, long 1,5 m. brown, protected by an amniotic sac. It is grown on well-cultivated soils. It is used as an independent plant in gardens and parks. A very interesting plant during the winter period!!
