Roses need at least six hours of sun a day, no matter what part of the day those hours are. All pack, six hours of morning sun is preferable to six hours of afternoon sun for the following reasons: rose leaves prefer to be dry. The faster the moisture from the night evaporates from the leaves, the less likely disease is to become a factor. The afternoon sun is often too hot. Roses enjoy less afternoon shade.

Suitable soil

Roses grow best in loam, well-drained soil with a pH of 6,5 to 6,8. When you improve the soil through changes in its composition, be sure to encourage drainage by incorporating peat moss. Regardless of the season of the year, apply 4 or 5 cm of mulch on the soil around the rose bushes.
