Black Ophiopogon, (Ophiopogon black)
Compact, densely growing, forming tight tufts, evergreen, a grass-like plant. The black grass, it's not actually grass, and the plant, which belongs to the Asparagus family. Unpretentious and extremely attractive with the black coloring of its leaves. Prefers light shade, but it can be grown without problem in a sunny place, where its leaves turn an even darker black.
Black ophiopogon is an ornamental grass in the asparagus family. It is an evergreen ground cover, which grows to 8-12 inches high and is tufted. This plant blooms in summer and has large race points, which are crowded with showy flowers, held well above the leaves, which contrasts well with almost black leaves. This evergreen cover spreads slowly and has some daughter plants, which return to green.
Grow in fertile, wet, slightly acidic well-drained soils in part sun, to be chopped. It prefers a constantly moist environment. Use within limits, like edging, ground cover or along stream and lake edges.
Relatively pest free.
